It is with great sadness to inform you all that Mick Potts has passed away. His funeral was held at Verdant Lane Cemetery on Thursday June 1st at 3.15

It is with great regret that the sad passing of Sgt Mark Hansen, ex 1st Bn Drums is announced. His funeral took place at 10.40 on Wednesday 22 February at Barham Crematorium, Barham, Kent, CT4 6QU.


LCpl Steve "Bing" Crosby
9 May 2016

I am very sorry to have to inform you of the sad death on 9 May of LCpl Steve Crosby, ex 1st Battalion, who passed away following his battle with cancer.

His funeral took place on Friday 20 May at 15.30 at Maidstone Crematorium Vintners Park Bearstead Road Maidstone Kent ME14 5LG.


Pte Alan Lesley Smith
27 October 2015

It is with great regret that the death is announced of Pte Alan Lesley Smith, ex 4th Battalion who died on 27 October having spent the last few years being cared for at the Vanehill Specialist Care Home in Torquay

It would appear that he had no family and so the Home were delighted that members of the Regiment could attend the funeral which took place at Torquay Crematorium at 13.30 on 11 November.

His coffin was draped with the Regimental flag and the Last Post played and the Regimental Collect said.

His funeral, which was a private family affair, took place on Tuesday 27 October. 


Lieutenant Colonel John Dyer

It is with great regret that the sudden death is announced of Lt Col John Dyer, ex 3 QUEENS and PWRR.

His funeral took place at 1100hrs on 7 September at the Garrison Church of St George, Bulford followed by a wake at 1200 at the Officers' Mess, HQLF, Andover.

The sad death is announced of, ex Queen's Royal Surreys and 1 QUEENS on Sunday 26 July.

His funeral was held at Bury St Edmunds Crematorium, Risby, Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, IP28 6RR on Monday 10 August at 12.45.


Stephen John Cooper (2 QUEENS Corps of Drums)

It is with great sadness that the sudden death, after a very short battle with cancer, is announced of Stephen John Cooper who served with the 2 QUEENS Corps of Drums in the 70's and 80's.

His funeral took place at 1430 hrs on 5 August at Bournemouth, North Cemetery, Strouden Avenue, Charminster, Bournmouth, Dorset, BH8 9HX.

His funeral took place in the Parish Church of St Michael and All Angels, Marden, Kent (TN12 9HL) at 2.45 pm on Wednesday 26 March 2014, followed by a private family service of cremation earlier in the day.


Dave Haggarty (1 Queen's - Ex-Recce Platoon)

His funeral took place at Enfield Crematorium at 1200hrs on Monday 17 March. The wake followed afterwards at the Black Horse, South Mimms, Enfield, EN6 3PS. All ex-Queensmen were welcome.


Major Andrew "Dick" Whittington (3 Queen's)

It is with deep sadness that we announce the recent passing of Major Andrew "Dick" Whittington. He served in the Regiment from 1965 to 1971. He was HQ Coy Clerk, A Coy & Int. On attaining an "A" at Skill at Arms he transferred to the SASC, within which, he became a Major. In civilian life he became an Arms Executive for SAAB of Sweden.

Bill's, funeral took place at 1000hrs Thanet Crematorium. Manston Road Margate Kent CT9 4LY Friday 20th December. The wake was held at Minster Bowling Club afterwards 1100 hrs.

It is with regret that I have to inform you that died on 2nd December. He enlisted as a National Serviceman in the East Surreys in 1950. He served with The Gloucester's in Korea after which he was demobbed only after a short spell to re-enlist into The East Surrey's and on amalgamation The Queen's Royal Surrey Regiment and Queen's Regiment. He left
the Regiment in 1969.

His funeral was held at Charing Crematorium, Ashford Kent on Thursday 19th December
at 1120 hours.


Colonel Neville Hunter

The Association sadly has to report the death of Colonel Neville Hunter, aged 71, following a fall and a brave fight against Parkinson' disease. 


WO2 Alan Booth (3 Queen's)

It is with great sadness that the death of WO2 Alan Booth, late of 3 Queen's, has to be announced following a long battle with cancer.

His funeral took place at 1015hrs on Friday 13th December at All Soul's Church, Cheriton High Street, Cheriton, CT19 4HE, followed by the burial at Shorncliffe Military Cemetery, which is close to the military camp at Shorncliffe, 2 miles west of Folkestone on the B2063. 


CSgt Robert Geoffrey (Sid) Sadler

Dear Colleague

It is with deep regret that I have to inform you of the sudden death of Sid Sadler on the 16th of July 2013. Sid served in the 1st Battalion the Queen’s Regiment and the 2nd Battalion the Princess of Wales’s Royal Regiment.

His funeral took place at the Porchester Crematorium, Upper Cornaway Lane, Porchester, Hants. PO16 8NE on Wednesday 7 August at 1530 Hrs.

Following the funeral attendees were invited to refreshments at the RBL Hayling Island, Legion Road, Hayling Island. PO11 9ES.


Private Laurie "Sam" Costa

It is with great sadness that the Association must inform members of the sad death after a long illness of Private Laurie "Sam" Costa, who served in 9 Platoon, the Queen's Royal Regiment, in Malaya, Singapore and BAOR Germany.

The funeral of Lawrence Costa (aka Laurie or Sam) took place on Friday 9th August 2013 at Hawkinge Crematorium, Aerodrome Road , Folkestone CT18 7AG at 11.45am.

He specifically said that he would like everyone to have a drink for him at the Royal British Legion, Memorial Hall, Sea Wall, Dymchurch, Romney Marsh, Kent , TN29 0TG afterwards.


Major Max Maloney (Former Drum Major)

It is with deep regret that I have to inform you of the death of Major Max Maloney, ex Queen’s Royal Surrey Regiment, 1st Battalion, 3rd Battalion and 6/7th Battalion, The Queen’s Regiment.

His funeral took place at 12.00 on Friday 12 July at St James’ Church, Sussex Gardens, London W2 3UD.


WOII Gregor Crowley (3 Queen's)
27 May 2013

It is with sadness that I inform you of the passing of WOII Gregor Crowley (Greg), 3 Queen's. He passed away at his home in Seaford, East Sussex on the 23rd May 2013.

Greg had been under treatment for heart failure for several weeks after a six day stay in hospital. The cause of death has not been established officially as yet.

Greg Crowley's funeral took place on the 11th June at 1515 hrs, at Hyde Hollow, Eastbourne Crematorium BN23 8AE, then on to a local church in Seaford.


Cpl Anthony “Blue” Simmonds
11 April 2013

It is with deep regret that I have to inform you of the death of Cpl Anthony “Blue” Simmonds.

Having started his service in the Queen’s Own Buffs, Blue served with 2nd Battalion the Queen’s Regiment between 1966-82 serving in Hong Kong, Gibraltar, BAOR, N Ireland, Colchester, Bulford, and Cyprus. Many may remember Blue running the Army Water Training Corps in Gibraltar from the Regimental speed boat!

A memorial service took place at 1300 hours Thursday the 13th of April at the Royal British Legion, 78 Livingston Road, Gillingham, Kent, ME7 2EJ.

It is with deep regret that I have to inform you of the death of Sgt Ron Marsh on Sunday the 24th of March 2013. Ron served with 5th Battalion the Queen’s Regiment and 3rd Battalion the Princess of Wales’s Royal Regiment.

His funeral took place at 1200 hours Thursday the 11th of April at the Barham Crematorium, Canterbury Road, Barham. CT4 6QU


Major Peter Gordon Harrington MBE TD

It is with deep regret that I have to inform you of the death of Major Peter Harrington on Friday the 15th of March 2013.

Peter served many years with 4/5 Royal Sussex in Hastings and 5th Battalion The Queen’s Regiment Canterbury.

His funeral took place at 1415 hours Wednesday the 3rd of April 2013 at St Mary’s Church, The Green, Chartham, Kent CT4 7JW.

It is with deep regret that I have to inform you of the sudden death of Pte Jim Thompson on Monday the 28th of January.

Jim served in B Company 3 Queen's over the period 1965 - 1968.

His funeral took place at 1300 hours Wednesday the 13th of February at the Eastbourne Crematorium BN23 8AE


LCpl Peter (Chippy) Wood

It is with deep regret that I have to inform you of the death of LCpl Chippy Wood on Monday the 7th of January following a heart attack.

Chippy served with the Queen's Own Buffs and 2nd Battalion the Queen's Regiment over the period 1961 - 1978. Operationally he served in Borneo and Northern Ireland.

His funeral took place on at 0920 hours on Friday the 8th of February at the Barham Crematorium, Canterbury Road, Barham. CT4 6QU.

David served in both the Middlesex Regiment and 1st Battalion the Queen's Regiment. (1 Queen's 1966 - 1973)

It is with deep regret that I have to inform you of the sudden death from a heart attack of CSgt Del Gardner. Del served with the East Surrey Regiment, the Queen's Royal Surrey Regiment and 1st Battalion the Queen's Regiment. He retired from the Signals Platoon 1 Queen's in 1968.

It is with deep regret that I have to inform you of the death of CSgt Sid Hilton.

Sid joined the Middlesex Regiment in 1955 and the Queen's Regiment in 1966 until 1978.

He spent a number of years in the Assault Pioneer Platoon particularly with 2nd Battalion the Queen's Regiment in Werl Germany.

Peter enlisted into the Queen's Own Royal West Kent Regiment and served with the Queen's Own Buffs and 2nd Battalion the Queen's Regiment.


Major John T Doran (3 Queen's)

It is with deep regret that I have to inform you of the death of Major John Doran.

John served short periods in the Royal Sussex Regiment and the Middlesex Regiment then as the Orderly Room Quarter Master Sergeant 3rd Battalion the Queen’s Regiment before being commissioned into the Royal Logistic Corps.

It is with great sadness that Regimental Headquarters has to announce the death of Pte Paul Donovan Garrick.

Paul served in the Queen’s Regiment. He died as a result of Colon Cancer.


1st Battalion Queens Regt Brigadier John Holman CBEBrigadier (Retd) John Charles Holman CBE DL

It is with deep sadness that Regimental Headquarters has to announce the death of Brigadier John Holman.

Some years ago he was attacked by Hodgkin's Lymphoma but after expert treatment was able to enjoy a good period of remission. Sadly the cancer returned this year and further treatment has not been successful.

Brigadier John Holman saw operational service in Borneo, Cyprus, Northern Ireland, and commanded The 1st Battalion The Queen's Regiment. He was Commander 2 Infantry Brigade; Secretary, SE TAVRA.

More recently, Brigadier Holman was Chairman of the Hythe Festival and Hythe Civic Society in Kent, being actively involved with Shepway District Council and was also a Deputy Lieutenant of the Lieutenancy of Kent.


L/Cpl Michael Sacre (1 Queen's)
29th of September 2011

1st Battalion Queen's Regiment Michael SacreIt is with the deepest sadness that Regimental Headquarters has to announce the death of ex LCpl Michael Sacre on the 29th of September 2011.

Michael served with the 1st Battalion the Queen’s Regiment between January 1967 and June 1970.

He was the Commanding Officers driver and a member of the Battalion Boxing Team.
